I was getting frustrated the last few days because it has been in the upper 90′s and every time I checked on the garden which is several times a day everything would be wilted. All of my tomato plants were withered and all of the pepper plants were slumped over with the leaves all shriveled up. I would water it when the sun was low and they’d perk up but then the next day would come and the same thing would happen. I finally figured it out after even attempting to water it twice a day before the sun came out and after the sun was low…So finally I figured it out and I put down mulch. I put mulch around each plant, (tomorrow I’ll be mulching the rest since I bought two bags yesterday), but anyway, I put mulch around them which blocked the sun from evaporated all the moisture from the plants and kept the area moist and the next thing you know, everything was standing tall, my pepper plants actually looked like pepper plants etc. I need to take photos…I’m having a hard time with my camera cord to upload photos-ugh. But, all the dino kale and collards are looking good. It’s been raining the past two days so they really perked up. My corn looks excellent…I’m growing corn in containers, two of them at a time in one container-(total of four)-three heirloom corn and one strawberry popcorn. I have about 15 more tomato plants that need to be transplanted. I have the Aji Dulce growing in a container on the back porch as well as squashes. I also have mega pumpkin seed plants that are still way too tiny to transplant. I also need to start some cucumber seeds since all of my cucumber plants died and I’m having a horrible time trying to find any to replace them. So they may be very late but at least I’ll have them.
I lucked out and found a foldable movable planter bag for patio gardening at a yard sale yesterday for 50 cents. It was unopened. Its the Ex: Organic Gardener brand. It is approx: 15.8 gallons so it is wide and deep and would make an excellent container garden. I may transplant my squashes into it since it’s already in a container and this would just give it more space to grow.
As soon as the camera cord cooperates with me I will upload some photos. Hope everyone’s garden is growing well…I’m sure some are probably on garden number two by now but here in Indiana it’s just getting into full swing.
