I planted out some of my garden. I’m still waiting on the soil. My neighbor should be picking it up for me tomorrow. I hope so. The city has been slow on it this year. I have the collards and kale planted and I bought some of my plants and fixed my two other raised beds the other day. One of my raised beds’ soil is so rich and dark I don’t need to do anything to it this year. I can’t wait to get these plants into the ground tomorrow and then I can see how much I will need to fill in.

I am waiting for soil. I can get a truckload of soil from the city dump for $8. It goes an incredibly long way too. I need it to fill up my two raised beds in the front which includes the experimental Pallet garden that I laid out-meaning I laid out four pallets, you fill it in and plant and it’s already separated. My larger raised bed I will put a dusting of soil on it really doesn’t need much. The mother’s day sale is coming up where I will purchase the majority of my plants. I noticed that my collard green stems have sprouted out new plants but I haven’t been outside to work on the larger raised bed as of yet.

With the weather finally breaking and gardening seasoning starting, I will be posting much more. Oh, I had my daughter’s boyfriend drill holes into a 5 gallon bucket and he dug it into the ground as our first compost bin. So that’s good.

I snagged a few pallets for a pallet garden. You use the pallets as a space so that when the plants grow they are already separated. I used some old plastic that was used on our windows during the winter and then used with painting of the living room etc. and I put that down and then put the pallets above it and arranged it like a raised bed. My neighbor said he’d build a frame around it. We shall see…he’s never home-LOL.

But, the Mother’s Day sale is coming up and thats where I will buy the majority of my starts. I won’t be buying any more from that lady I used to buy from. She raises her price every week instead of dropping them because she has too much inventory. No thanks. I hope to tackle the larger plot tomorrow if theres no rain. I see that collards are already growing out from the roots of the dead plants. So, gonna hack off the tops and let it grow. I also plan on growing in pots on my porch on the other side of my porch. I already have a planter on the other side.

So thats all for now. Its too early to plant here in Northeast Indiana. It could snow tomorrow, you never know.

Biodynamics-https://www.biodynamics.com/biodynamics.html

Biodynamics is a spiritual-ethical-ecological approach to agriculture, food production and nutrition.

Biodynamics was first developed in the early 1920s based on the spiritual insights and practical suggestions of the Austrian writer, educator and social activist Dr. Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), whose philosophy is called “anthroposophy.” Today, the biodynamic movement encompasses thousands of successful gardens, farms, vineyards and agricultural operations of all kinds and sizes on all continents, in a wide variety of ecological and economic settings.

Biodynamic farmers strive to create a diversified, balanced farm ecosystem that generates health and fertility as much as possible from within the farm itself. Preparations made from fermented manure, minerals and herbs are used to help restore and harmonize the vital life forces of the farm and to enhance the nutrition, quality and flavor of the food being raised. Biodynamic practitioners also recognize and strive to work in cooperation with the subtle influences of the wider cosmos on soil, plant and animal health.

Most biodynamic initiatives seek to embody triple bottom line approaches (ecological, social and economic sustainability), taking inspiration from Steiner’s insights into social and economic life as well as agriculture. Community supported agriculture (CSA), for example, was pioneered by biodynamic farmers, and many biodynamic practitioners work in creative partnerships with other farms and with schools, medical and wellness facilities, restaurants, hotels, homes for social therapy and other organizations.

Biodynamics is thus not just a holistic agricultural system but also a potent movement for new thinking and practices in all aspects of life connected to food and agriculture.

I have so much to do but its raining up a storm right now. I need to get rid of my old tomato vines that still exist outside my back porch on the cement. I need to build a compost bin out of pallets. I need to disturb one garden bed which goes completely against the No Dig Garden method BUT I need to remove that evil garden cloth I laid down in it last year. I need to pick all the weeds that are trying to spring up in it. I need to buy some organic cow manure. I have laid down one little square of cardboard for my third garden area. That’s not enough.

For the past week, we’ve been in the process of having the house painted so its been crazy. My daughter and her boyfriend painted my living room and dining room on their spring break. They got tuckered out and so I decided to help them out by painting the kitchen up to what I could reach. So, we’ve had to wait a few days until tomorrow for him to come back and he’ll paint the top half and cabinents. After that we have to lay down flooring too. But, I need to get these things and do all the things I need to do for the garden so that next month at the Mother’s Day sale here in Fort Wayne, I can buy my plants. I don’t have time to do seeds unless its something special like Lansanto or Dinosaur Kale or something specific like tomatoes for short seasons because I’m booked with getting my art work together, driving my daughter from her high school to her college to work now and doctors appt’s that plants will have to be it this year for the most part.

Also with the weather flip-flopping here in Fort Wayne. Yesterday it was 79 degrees, today its cold and rainy and you need a jacket. So, after almost three years, I still haven’t figured out this weather yet but I’ve someone have to grow ten arms and get this all done.
